The headline is a little harsh, I agree.
I’m sure you’re a perfectly charming, agreeable person most of the time. But, you – and everyone else, for that matter – have a bad habit that is ruining the rest of your social interactions.
It’s a nasty little habit that steamrolls your social interactions with people by making them feel ignored, annoyed, and manipulated.
You probably associate this trait with politicians, religious fanatics, and car salesmen. And, they’re the worst offenders, for sure…but so are you.
So, what are we talking about here?
You have a ‘secret agenda’ in your conversation and it ruins otherwise great conversations, dates, and sales pitches.
This quality makes people feel like you’re the only person that matters in this conversation; that they are just a ‘means to an end’; and, worst of all, that you’re a self-centered asshole.
Here’s the upside, though: There’s a relatively easy way to fix this and turn around your conversations.
I discuss this in detail in the 9-minute video below, along with:
- Why we like to buy…but not to be sold to.
- How to know when your conversations are full of shit.
- Why having an agenda makes you seem so smarmy to other people.
- And…a few shady encounters I had on the streets of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
